What does PAS stand for on an electric bike?

Newbie here, need some help... what does the abbreviation PAS stand for in regards to an ebike?

PAS stands for - Pedal Assisted System on an electric bicycle.

P.A.S. is the system that turns the electric motor on automatically when the rider pedals the bike, and off when the rider stops pedalling. P.A.S. is also a legal requirement in some countries as it turns the motor assist off when the rider goes over a certain speed limit.
