I bought an alloy framed folder to convert recently, nothing special apparently, but it does have front and rear suspension, I insisted upon that. An 'Explorer', a British built brand (so the website says) that looks like a competent base. They do make new models including an E, but this is about economy.
I had a Dahon folder previously that I lovingly restored beyond what anyone would call reasonable financial economy, but It didn't matter, it was fun. Learned most things from the Sheldon Brown website.
I had not cycled for for a long time as I have discovered various health issues, so let it go to a friend.
I find my self at a place now where I am looking to use mobility aids to do things I otherwise would not be able to, particularly outdoor forest/woodsy trails, not really much on road, bringing the folder in a car/camper for nature access. Apparently all the nature trusts management have never heard of disability or ambulant wheelchair users, with locked gates blocking access to cars. I reckon that I will be ok lifting a folder over a locked gate, providing the battery is removable, with maybe quick release wheels.
I won't be peddling, or hardly at all, (may help with surgery recovery later) pulling a small specialist grocery trailer behind, which gives me the option to load up and camp out.
Looking to fit a large comfy seat of a trike that wont restrict circulation.
Could use a way to select between a hand operated throttle and peddles.
Speed is optional, it needs pulling power and range to spare, cannot do with getting stuck somewhere.
I'm happy to make my own battery pack to save cost, and I get to choose the cells/controller.
About the power: Not to sure what to select.
20'' MTB style wheels.
Been looking at the Bafang BBSHB 1000W mid drive, I don't think anything less will be enough?
How would a hub drive fair?
Any other brands of note?
Scanning the used market for parts.

Ok - there are a lot of different folding bikes known/named as "Explorer" - from what you described you are looking to "convert" a "older" AS UK 20" folding bike - a bit older model circa 2010 Explore model with both Front/Rear suspension option - correct ?

Yes, that's the one. That's the article that put me on to it.
