Definition of BMS?

Is the definition of "BMS" consistent across the industry? It seems that some products marketed as "BMS" include charging and balancing features, while others strictly refer to protections (thermal, overcurrent, under-voltage, etc). Are some retailers misusing the term?

For "BMS" = Battery Management System - yes, there are a wide range of Management/Control System Feartures that can be implemented. No - the eBike Space does not have a unified industry feature definition.
