Not really sure wut yur talking about.
Do you mean the plus and minus thing or the triggers or the watch winding knob looking thing?
Have you traced the wires that come out of that area/switch/knob thing to see where they go?
it does say shimano.. take a few more pics when yur tracing the wires down to where they go,
so we can all see a few different angles....make sense?

Could that be a plus or minus "tension/pull" for your brake lever?
For instance, if you loosen the watch winding knob then turn the plus minus thing up to + a bit then tighten the watch winding know back down and
check your brake lever pull tension.
