I saw a smooshed snake the other day; made me kind of sad.
I prevented an accident one day last week.
I was riding on a bike-hostile local road at dusk. No shoulders, there's about 6" of gravel and then it falls off into a swamp. 35 mph speed limit; people go 45-50 mph. I had good lights going, so don't worry about me.
Clipping along at 18 mph on my road bike, I saw a deer in the headlight, just standing there. Just then, a car was passing me. I put my hand out to the side and made the "slow down" gesture. (palm downward, pushing downward) The car passed me, but hit the brakes and came to a full stop just past me. She was back in my lane, stopped.
The first deer continued on and then a Harley Pirate came up and was going to pass the stopped car. I made the gesture again. He contnued his pass, but slowed down in time to not hit the next deer that was coming out of the bushes. His wife or girlfriend was some way behind and had plenty of time.
The car continued on. The Harley Pirate waited for me, shouted "Thank you!" and continued on.
If those guys didn't have their low speed scout (me) I'm sure at least one of them would've either hit a deer or wound up in the swamp trying to avoid it.

As I was parking my bike by a river this bad boy ran up behind me and started doing pushups on a log. It looked to be around 10 inches long. The biggest blue belly I've ever seen!

Yes, it's Oregon. I live on the southern Oregon coast. We moved here a little over 7 years ago. It's beautiful
