I am in search of a part number for the controller for a Velotric Discover 1, 500 watt motor, 48 volt system. My wife's ebike has inconsistent battery life display. Typically after a full charge, a mile down the road her battery drops to 4 out of 5 bars. Sometimes it will drop to three, two, one, or even zero after a short trip. Bike continues to operate normally, both PAS and Throttle. She can power cycle the bike and the battery will then return to a full charge display. I have swapped batteries between our bikes and the problem stays with her bike, not her battery.

Any/all help is appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean by "power cycle" Do you mean turning all off and then back on again? Also, do you have the exact same bike?

Yes, by power cycle I mean power the bike off and back on. Yes, we both have the Discover 1, just different colors. Purchased at the same time.

This seems to be my day for saying this, but first I would go around checking all of your plugs, unplugging them and replugging them (always remembering to line up the arrows). If that doesn't work, at the base near your crank, on the opposite side of your chainring there is a trapezoidal door, that is where your controller sits. It may also have two screws underneath holding it in. You can take off that door and check those plugs too, especially the battery plug. Next, because you have the same bike, you could unplug your display and move it to your wife's bike to see if that fixes things. (You can see where I am going with this). You can also switch out the controllers, if you want to test it that way too. In regards to getting a new controller, the controller and the display have to match. Not only that, but the controller has been set up and pre-designed for Velotric. Unless you want a DIY project of installing your own controller and display, one that is programmable, you are going to have to order one from Velotric. They should know that information and it should also be written on the controller. If these are new bikes, you can ignore all of this and take it to a Velotric bike shop in Indiana and have them sort it out. I have the Velotric small cargo bike and it has been a dependable little work horse. So, you should be able to get all of this worked
out. Let me know if you have anymore thoughts or questions.

Thanks for the info. After we got on from a ride today I unplugged all of the connections for the controller and display, sprayed each of them with DeOxiT, and reconnected them. All looked clean and solid. We plan a short ride tomorrow so I will see if there is any difference. I don’t expect anything to be different.

We have taken a couple of rides since my last post and so far, so good. My wife's battery indicator did drop from five to four on a 20+ mile ride while my battery stayed at five. However this is much improved for my wife's bike from the previous issues. Only time will tell. Unfortunately the weather here in Conroe, TX is not going to be conducive to riding for the next week or so, so no chance to run an additional test. Thanks for the feedback!

A battery going from 5 to 4 on a 20 mile ride is not so bad at all. Your wife may have needed a bit more throttle trying to keep up with you. ;)
