I tried one of those cheap telescoping seat posts (Zoom? Don’t recall exactly) and while it worked a lot better than nothing, the movement was jerky. This is because it’s cheaply made but mainly because it moves forwards and down, whereas it needs to move backwards and down to properly and smoothly counteract the movement of the bike over a bump. The more expensive parallelogram suspension seat posts do this, like the Suntour etc, and the difference is night and day frankly. I was very happy with my Suntour but cannot resist something which might be better and I figured the much longer travel of the ThudBuster LT (90mm vs 50mm) should be even better, at least in theory. I got a good deal on one and yes, it is better, but only slightly even after fiddling with different elastomers. With that thought, plus the fact that it’s pretty huge and increases the minimum seat height by about 5.5in, not to mention the price, means it’s not a great buy IMHO. I’m keeping it for one reason though, and that is the seat tilt adjustment is infinitely variable. It’s not restricted to the click-stop settings of the Suntour (and also the Velotric copy, according to the installation video) and my butt is very grateful for that.
