My wife and I are thinking of buying a couple of Discover 2 eBikes and the one accessory I'm thinking about is an upgraded seat post. Velotric has a suspension seat post for $99 , but I see a bunch on Amazon as well that would likely work. Am I better off getting the one from Velotric, or is there a 3rd party one for less that is better?

I've tested Velotric's and it seems fine to me. If I were to choose another one, I would go with Suntour NCX. But, beware, there are fake Suntours on Amazon. I order from Amazon all the time, but I would buy a Suntour directly from Suntour or from a bike shop.

I bought a Zoom seat post as an experiment and I like it much more than I thought I would. It has a compression spring that you adjust from the bottom with an allen key. Everyone likes the Suntour suspension posts but I haven't found any real reason to upgrade.Things are cheaper on Aliexpress but they will take quite awhile to get here. Velotric is having a big sale right now so it's a good time to get the Discover2. Good luck.

That design is a copy of the Suntour NCX. The original Suntour is cheaper and likely better quality. I paid $90 direct from Suntour, annieolnie shows above where you can save $20 from that price. (hopefully, they're new and not returns?)

I have one on my commuter eBike and it's awesome.

This design is a good one, the cantilever mechanism pushes down on a piston inside the seatpost and there is a big spring inside with adjustable preload to set it for your weight. Don't get one of the direct action shocks, they're cheap & nasty in comparison.

I see Sountour posts on AliExpress now for $58 (+/-), how do I know they are not "fakes"? I assume I want the 30.9 mm case for such a post?

I've had very good luck with Aliexpress, though the shipping can be slow. Most of their bike parts are reputable. If the Aliexpress store it is from has a decent rating it should be fine. You want whatever post diameter your bike takes. The posts are one diameter and they include a shim to suit your bike's down tube.

I tried one of those cheap telescoping seat posts (Zoom? Don’t recall exactly) and while it worked a lot better than nothing, the movement was jerky. This is because it’s cheaply made but mainly because it moves forwards and down, whereas it needs to move backwards and down to properly and smoothly counteract the movement of the bike over a bump. The more expensive parallelogram suspension seat posts do this, like the Suntour etc, and the difference is night and day frankly. I was very happy with my Suntour but cannot resist something which might be better and I figured the much longer travel of the ThudBuster LT (90mm vs 50mm) should be even better, at least in theory. I got a good deal on one and yes, it is better, but only slightly even after fiddling with different elastomers. With that thought, plus the fact that it’s pretty huge and increases the minimum seat height by about 5.5in, not to mention the price, means it’s not a great buy IMHO. I’m keeping it for one reason though, and that is the seat tilt adjustment is infinitely variable. It’s not restricted to the click-stop settings of the Suntour (and also the Velotric copy, according to the installation video) and my butt is very grateful for that.
