Hi... I'm new to the forum. I have searched on this forum back through November to no avail. I need to get an inexpensive (under $150) rack for transporting my ebike. Needs to fit a 2" receiver on the back of my pickup truck. Must accommodate a minimum, 70lb bike. Does anyone have suggestions for a well constructed, quality rack, in this price range? Needs to roll onto the rack or pick up one end at a time to place ebike on rack.

Thanks for any feedback.
Hutch

Welcome to the forums mate

Some of our members have some good bike hauling racks so hopefully one or 3 of them will chime in shortly :)

Welcome to the forum, Hutch.

My honest answer to your question would be that I don’t think you will be able to get a well constructed quality hitch mounted rack with that weight capacity for under $150.

My rack sounds like what you are looking for, and it has a loading ramp, but IIRC, was somewhere in the $900 range.

Thanks for the responses guys and/or gals. I have raised my price for buying a quality ebike rack. Still would like to be no more than $400. Any more suggestions?

Thanks,
Hutch

Buy a motorcycle rack. 400 lb capacity and the only thing you lose is the 30-second mounting capability. You'll need to spend a couple minutes doing tie down straps. As you can see in this pic, I was able to tie down a gigantic cargo bike. A regular ebike of normal length fits better still. Do yourself a favor and find/buy the 7-ft version of the ramp for a rack like this and you are golden.

If I remember right, thats two loops and two straps one each for the handlebars. Two more for the frame. You can fudge the handlebars and just use one strap for both left and right. So four cheapie come-alongs, a couple of cargo loops, and buy yourself a hitch tightener if you don't have one already. On this pic I also have a hitch riser which keeps me from caring about going up and down ramps. If you are talking pickup truck (2" hitch) then you are fine I'm sure.

Forget about an ebike rack for $400. The $900 range is accurate. Bike rack sellers basically hold ebike-stressed racks for ransom.

Mine is the Black Widow rack which is normally $170. This one includes a 6-foot ramp instead of a 3-footer for $244.

here's a separate 76" ramp. Thanks to the miracle of Chinese marketing they show the ramp lip on backwards, but its held on by bolts so even if they really put it on that way you can reverse it.

I have a Hollywood Destination E rack. If you are a first responder, military, or veteran they offer a 20% discount, so I got a $700 rack for $560 and free shipping.

Helps keep it from rattling. I bought the metal rack with ramp and Center arm with foam to come down on ceter of bike and put locks on everything 2" too. Even drilled ramp for safety falling off or theft.
Wish mine was made of aluminum to be lighter.
But it works great and cheaper.

@jimbo5 I've never seen one with that center arm. That would be super-handy. I had that same hitch tightener but found the kind that does 3 bolts from underneath works better. But its definitely more of a pita to tighten down. When I use a rack I'm usually taking a 170-mile trip from work to home so that rack has to stay tight for lots of freeway speed driving.

Definitely like the locking idea from a fail-safe standpoint. I use a cable lock around the bike and lock it to the rack so I can go into the bathroom or a sandwich shop for a moment.

Never enough locks. Cable is very easy to cut so I use cable, d lock, chain lock and 2 extra thick cable locks around tires to rack and sometimes a bike cover so they don't know or see everything. I've got e bike and gear everything insured with Markel. But keep go pro and important stuff in my riding pack in car under cover. I've seen 3 times now low lifes druggie scoping it out before and chase them away and once a good citizen yell at them. I just try making it alot of work for them and they better hope I don't catch them. There'll be very short arm people who can't grab or wipe there s**t again. It's getting bad talking to people who's lost there bikes, even had them try grabbing me while ridding already e bike jacking call it. I have a alarm that's loud works great but goes threw the batteries. I'm not rich just getting by retired and trying to excise new knee but have already had 5 back surgeries, 2 knee, elbow, wrist, 2 noses and more. Now I'm a redneck and hate seeing what our country is turning into.
Anyway safe riding hope some of the idea's help yeah. That's how this site has done for me and others.

I use the same one Snoop has in his post, its for Motorcycles but its great for my ebike with the 4 in wide tires, it fits snug in the cradle
I did add an anti moving device on the hitch they are cheap. When I bought mine from Amazon it was 49.00...
they are good for 400lbs. Used it extensively on Rv and Jeep
