Swap cruiser tires for moderate off road tires - Aventon Level

Ex-single track, now retired (older/no wiser) and new to ebiking with Aventon Level-27.5x2.1 tires. I'm thinking of adding a little more aggressive tire to handle off road trails better; maybe a 3" wide. Any pros or cons for this search? We plan on peddling quite a bit and that is why we didn't go with fat tire. Our riding will probably be 70+% paved/30% gravel or trail.
