Hello fellow e-bike enthusiasts,

I've recently acquired a 2025 Engwe M20 here in Portugal, and it's currently restricted to 25 km/h. I've attempted various methods to unlock the speed limiter, including:
  • Accessing the hidden menu by holding "+" and "–" buttons.
  • Adjusting settings in the P1 and P3 menus.
  • Holding the "+" button in P1 for over 10 seconds to reach 63 km/h.
  • Exploring the P2 menu with extended "+" button presses.
Despite these efforts, the speed remains capped at 25 km/h. It seems the 2025 models might have updated firmware or hardware restrictions.
Has anyone successfully unlocked the speed limiter on the 2025 Engwe M20 EU version? If so, could you please share the steps or any resources that might help?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Best regards, jpaulo

According to AI you can unlock it. I would say that may or may not be true, but it did accept my entire inquiry statement, which gives it a better chance of being the case. The one thing they mentioned was turning the bike completely off and then on, after reaching the proper setting. I'll post it here. Let us know if it works.

If the option is available, you can input a smaller wheel diameter than what you actually have. The bad part is it will skew your speedometer. You can use a GPS speed app on your phone. Let us know if you get this figured out!

Hello, thanks for the answer. That was actually my first option, but it no longer works with the 2025 Engwe M20 bikes. I have two bikes—one I bought last year, and that procedure worked perfectly. However, with this new version, it doesn't work anymore.

My throttle does not work only till 4 km/h. This is actually the best part of the bike—I prefer using just the throttle and pedal

If you get a chance can you post exactly what it says on the back of your display? I'm assuming it's a Yolin and I'm finding their displays to be programmed in a myriad of ways. I just spent an hour hunting down some of their acronyms because I couldn't understand one of their screens. Everything written on the back of the display is really the only clue as to what Engwe has decided to throw on any particular bike, on a particular day.

I'm not sure what you are saying? What I was saying is if your display has the parameter to define the diameter of the wheel you can input a smaller diameter than what you actually have. Let's say you have 26" diameter wheels. You can input you have 20" diameter wheels. This will "trick" the computer into "thinking" you are going slower than you actually are, so if there is some hardcoded limit on kph or mph it may allow you to actually go faster. Your speedometer will read the incorrect speed that the computer "thinks" you're going. You can use a GPS based speed app on your phone to know your real speed.

I'm sorry for my English; what I meant is that when I use the throttle, it only goes up to 4 km/h. I enjoy the most is using the throttle without having to pedal. ;) , Appreciate the tip!

Hi, Have you tried du plug the display of the old bike on the new one. After contacting the support, I maybe Have a clue. Maybe the restriction of the speed unlock come from a factory update from the display. I try to buy an old display to try it

I'll give it a try tomorrow. I have two bikes—one with an older version . By the way, is it possible to program the controller by connecting directly to it? I bought a CP2102 adapter and would like to try tuning and unlocking the controller directly. Has anyone tried this approach or have any references on how to do it? What software can be used?
