Repeated Power Cut Issue with Tesgo STT E-Bike Battery

Hey everyone,

I've been having an issue with my Tesgo STT e-bike, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. During my recent 33km ride, the power cut off while the battery still showed 30% remaining. This has happened four or five times now, and it's starting to get really frustrating. Luckily, I was only a block away from home this time, but still.

A few details:

• The battery was fully charged before the trip.
• The weather was moderate, not hot or cold.
• The battery was showing 30% charge before the power cut.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it normal for the power to cut off when the battery still indicates 30%? Any tips on what settings or maintenance I should check? Could it be a firmware issue that needs updating? Or maybe the battery needs recalibration or replacement?

Most likely your battery is getting towards the safety voltage cutoff for low battery level. Once the voltage drops to the cutoff, it shuts your battery down. Are you able to see the battery voltage, or does your controller show something like power bars? On some bikes you an change this setting, on others you can't. Mine starts doing the same thing once my battery gets to about 50V. It depends on how much energy you are trying to pull from the battery.

Usually controllers shut the system down somewhere in the 41-44V range. Next time it happens you can turn down the pedal assist and you may be able to ride a few more miles.

The Controller LVC, or low voltage cutoff, depends on the full voltage of the battery it thinks it has. Usually set around 3.2V per cell, you need to know your series count and do some math. The controller may be set for the wrong voltage battery.

Next, if you can wait a few seconds and turn back on, this acts to confirm Controller LVC, as opposed to Battery LVC, which is usually around 3.0V per cell, and requires a charge to reset.

Note that the above LVC numbers are not AT ALL universal among different brands and models.

This is complicated by voltage sag on the battery, which, depending on State Of Charge (SOC), age and quality of battery, and momentary load, can drag the battery voltage down below the LVC threshold and then rebound back up above this very quickly once the load is removed.

Also, if possible set the display to show actual voltage, the percentage number is just a guess since there is considerable debate about what 0% actually means and is also dependent on the correct battery type being entered from the beginning. This number is FREQUENTLY incorrect.

Yes, my wife and have Tesgo bikes and her's in having the same issue. we trook it to an independent e bike repair facility and they said the battery needs to be replaced. We're well past the warranty. 2 years old, so I guess we're stuck. mine hasn't had any issues. I've found replacement batteries for @600.00 to $700.00. looking for other options.

You can go to "Reallygoodebikes.com" and use their range calculater. It seems that if you have a 1000 watt motor with 835 watt hr. battery on a 48 volt system and 4 inch fat tires that your range is probably about right. Your battery cut off would be around 39 volts and doing the math it all seems correct.
