Hi guys, I just joined this forum today, my Raleigh Array e-bike has had a replacement sensor that fits behind the pedal chain wheel. The display on the handlebar shows full battery power, but does not pedal assist. The throttle on the left-hand handlebar twists but no action, but when the throttle is applied, it does act like a brake if the bike is pushed backwards, so it seems something is there. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

Can you tell us more about this? You are in England, so this is a 250w motor? Did you just have the pedal assist replaced? Has it ever worked after replacement? Did you buy the bike used? The manual for your bike is on Manualslib.com. it says the throttle doesn't work unless the Pas is on. So, fixing the pedal assist may also fix the throttle. Did you replace the sensor or did a bike shop ? If you can give us some of the back story it will help.

Hi, thanks for your detailed reply. Yes, I'm in the UK. I have changed the sensor previously, but on this occasion, the chain came off and chewed up the sensor. I managed to buy one online but didn't fit it for over a year, but whilst the power bar displays full power, it seems to provide no assistance when pedaling, and as an older person, I can cope easily when working. When fitting the sensor, I have adjusted to ensure 1 mm parallel to the pedal wheel, and 5 to 8 mm depth as the manual recommends. I will remove the battery cover (which is an awful job, located on the rear carrier) to recheck the wiring connectors; other than that unsure if I can test the sensor cable itself. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you buy a sensor that was the exact replacement for your bike? Does it have the same number of magnets and the same pinout on the plug? The pinout can be tricky. Is it a Jst plug that goes to the inside, to where the controller is located, or a waterproof Julet plug on the outside of the bike? I should also ask, most speed sensors have a red Led light at the sensor, does that come on?

I believe I did, but it was 18 months or more since I ordered it, and some weeks since fitting the new one. I scoured the internet for a replacement, and finally someone came up with a sensor. There is no light on the sensor itself. I get full power on the handlebar indicator, Power, and battery reserve. My bike is a Raleigh Array, where the battery pack is fitted to the rear wheel carrier, not the framework on the forward support as later ones. I still need to remove the rear battery box and open it up to inspect the connections. But as a final note, I find it strange that when powered up and using the left hand accelerator for walking assist (if pushing along when walking), no assist kicks in, but it does act like a brake to reverse. So when the accelerator is not used, the bike can be pushed backwards, not that I want it to go backwards :) But mentioning this in case someone has had the same experience.

I'm wondering if your old sensor, when it was mangled, didn't short out something in your controller. Do you know where the controller is on this bike?
