Older ebike with 24V 8 ah battery

Hi all and my apologies if this has been covered, my searches don't turn much up. My niece has an older ebike, bought used in 2008, with a rear hub and a 24V 8 ah battery that has pretty much worn out. I see similar batteries, sort of 9" square and about 4" thick and promising 17.5 ah, available from China. Any suggestions as to whether to try this battery, seek a better Us-sourced alternative, or replace the hub motor and use a larger battery? This is a nice full-siuspension bike, comes apart in the center and looks all aluminum. Thanks!
