I'm a new user from New England. I have the Jasion X-hunter, my wife has the Q8 (sold under a few names like Apyear) and a Totem Victor 2 which was bought for my father but I keep at the house and use myself.

I live in rural new england near the coast. I mostly ride for fun on poorly maintained chipseal roads, and some gravel roads.

As I got older I stopped riding my old mountain bike that I bought new in 1995, a Jamis Durango AL. I bought my first ebike, the X-Hunter, when my employer offered a subsidy. Riding the ebike for a few months got me back into biking. I've since upgraded my Jamis with wider and higher handlebars which has made it usable again, and thicker tires which has made it much better on the poor roads.

I even convinced my neighbor to get an ebike, and bought one for my father. Unfortunately, his condo association has banned all ebikes, so it has become my second ebike. He can ride it once in a while when he visits. He's in his 80s, but has no problem with bikes.

Each of these bikes has their pros and cons. I'll either comment on other posts or make my own posts for these bikes soon. I know I purchased discount bikes, but that is kind of the fun. It let us try a few different styles to understand what we like. In the future we might upgrade, or maybe not since we like all of these bikes.

I have upgrades planned for each of these. New brakes for the X-Hunter, and possibly suspension upgrades or shorter crank arms (pedals strike the ground often). It might get a better set of gears soon too, I was able to get the parts very cheaply, need to see if they fit. The Totem already got wider tires and longer handlebar stem, and will get riser handlebars as soon as I get around to installing them. I'm thinking of installing a suspension fork on the Q8. My wife loves that bike, but it's a bit punishing on our local roads.

Welcome, from SE Wisconsin.

Wow, that just burns me up when a place bans a thing AFTER you've bought it. I'd be tempted to fight that.

My association years ago banned charcoal grills. I reluctantly got a small gas grill, then they banned those too. (propane tanks near buildings housing more than 4 people are against a local fire code) So I got an adapter and extension hose to run it to a full size propane tank. When the busybody old lady took a picture of that too, I said it was a power cord and it's an electric grill. (the big tank was hidden) Problem solved. I had a much more dangerous propane tank as a result of the meddling.

That association really had a tough time when the 2008 financial crisis hit. Half the people there lost their homes and the association fees doubled. I left as soon as I could.

I really hope HOAs figure out some compromise. Outright bannig all ebikes feels extreme. They're also not allowed grills with flames, no grills except electric.

why do people need home owners associations anyway?

buy yur home and land and be a good neighbor..stop lettin other idiuots idiots run your lives into the gorund ground..geez..
