Just picked up a Trek Verve 3 and ordered a BBSO2 and a premium 48v 20ah with 35e cells and 42t bling ring. Should be able to handle the hills here along Lake Superior. Bottom bracket is 68mm and threaded, hope there are no tight spots inside. Will let you know how it goes.
 
eggrider, 52v at least 30ah battery upgrades are in your future mate if it were me ;)

I put a 100mm BBSHD on my 70mm BB bike with some spacers .... You should be alright mate :)
