Need some advice...good lower end emtb's under $1000?

My next door neighbors are looking to get e mtn bikes. They'd like to keep it under $1k per bike if possible. I know that's a difficult price point given all the tech that goes into an ebike. I'm not familiar with ebikes, would appreciate some suggestions on what might make sense for beginning riders who want to get out on some trails. Thanks.

Both are preorder, meaning the container hasn't arrived from China yet.

Many reviews on YouTube. Most use them on pavement. I have one on order for trails and 4WD exclusively. Time will tell.
