My HeyBike was stolen in downtown Denver, Colorado

What was the outcome?

The police detective said that unless someone leaves it by the roadside there's not really anything they can do because the camera pointing at the bike rack outside of King Soopers (grocery store) was obstructed by a truck.

Doesn't that just make you want to moonlight as a vigilante?

Like in the Death Wish movies, but not to the point of murder...

That detective is one lazy piece of dog excrement!! That pisses me off and I didn't even lose a bike!

Way to go Kathryn Lucas, my hat is off to you. No thanks to the Denver PD. That Yahoo news clip was a really good thing.

We have a member here who snaps a pic of his bike every time he locks it up to be able to prove it was locked up properly to the lock mfr. (he's a specialty insurance guy)
Good to know. I plan on purchasing a Kryptonite chain lock. I'm thinking of the 1410 New York Fahgettaboudit but that might be over kill for max 10 minutes at a time. What do you think?

I repurchased that exact same HeyBke Brawn recently and here's how I have it secured now...I'm making sure nobody is riding away with this this bike.

 1. Apple AirTag hidden on the bike.
 2. Locks, locks, and more locks. Keyed Masterlock, Combination lock, SKUNKLOCK (Carbon Angle Grinder Resistant Deterrent U Lock for Bike Motorcycle Patented Blade Destroying Multi Material Anti Grinder Technology), an an additional U Lock.
 3. WSDCAM Anti-Theft Bike Alarm with Mount, 113dB Burglar Vibration Motorcycle Bicycle Alarm Security System
The 1410 New York Fahgettaboudit lock looks solid but the advice given here by people about using 2-locks is sound advice and I would get a second lock in addition to the one you're looking at. I was only in the grocery store for less than 5-minutes when my bike was stolen. I just went in to get milk, it can happen fast and my bike was in a very visible area, with people and cameras.

Been there, I know the feeling. I still have dreams every year or so where I find my bike and take it back only to have it stolen again before I wake up. It sucks, that feeling of shock seeing it gone all over again.

I would have gone and checked that ad out that you found. $150...obviously stolen. Would have been a very bad day for that character.

I don't plan on carrying 1,000,000 locks. Also I just purchased a very loud horn/motion alarm HERE.

What exact lock chain was it?

I used to be a photographer so I had a really nice bag to mount on the bike that I wasn’t using anymore, the thief probably didn’t even realize what they had:

Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW II

$369 normally. I bought the same bag for my new bike and locked it to the frame again. I’m sure the thief just cut the old one off and trashed it.

The lock was this Kryptonite chain lock. https://a.co/d/hIY6Con The lock wasn’t left on the ground so I assume they either took the lock (cut) with them or they simply had a key to open it. I can’t imagine they would cut it a few feet from the entryway to the grocery store in full view of people, but who knows now.

I’m going with a motion alarm too, this one is loud as s**t https://a.co/d/1CaXES2

Believe me I’m nervous as hell when I go into the store now even with all the added security. That initial shock not seeing my bike at the bike rack is hard to shake.

Thought the bag was a TAD at first then noticed how it zips. Very similar to my Vanquest sling bags. I have some LowePro stuff. Very well made. Now if only I could find something that would fit over my Osmo Action while it's attached to my selfie stick/tripod. I've seen some but I'm not sure if they'd fit over the SmallRig cage.

Also I think my alarm's louder. ;)

I had an eBike stolen in CO too, my Ride1UP Portola. Mine was stolen from CO Springs. There are a lot of bums in CO, maybe related to it being super blue politically and also being drug-infested. Bums go around with thieving tools looking for expensive bikes. Mine just had a cheap cable lock, so I made it easy

The Front range does indeed suck, come to the western slope, that's the best part of Colorado.

I watched this video a couple weeks ago. Very fascinating. I can't remember if Denver was mentioned but I know Portland was (I think lol, gonna watch it again with a homemade hard cider while waiting for my hobo chili in the oven). I used to have two major distributors for bike parts and tools in Portland back in the day. Such a beautiful city and wonderful people, Had a lot of good friends down on the west coast, shame to see the condition it is in today. It's a good watch, I highly recommend it:

I suggest a mod consider putting up a topic and pinning it in this sub-forum.

We’ll be in Ft. Collins this fall. What western range towns do you recommend?

I’ve always wanted to see Aspen since hearing the John Denver song as a kid. I don’t think that is the western slope though?

For that kind of money, I think it should be a noose-type chain + LiteLok U-lock.

I watched several videos comparing the LiteLok, Hiplock, and Skunklock Carbon and based con everything I watched (people using angle grinders trying to get through them) these three ulocks are the best. The reason I went with a Skunklock Carbon is because it’s long and wide in the middle giving me enough distance to lock the frame to bike racks. My first choice was LiteLok but I needed to order through Amazon and LiteLok isn’t sold there. I know you were responding to someone else but I wanted to jump in with this video where guy has a Kryptonite ulock and immediately says no to it.

For that kind of money? Isn't a LiteLok $500 plus?
Yeah, they're expensive, but not quite THAT expensive:
 • $180 for the X1
 • $300 for the X3 (thicker, but smaller opening)

Even at these high prices, they're cheap insurance against theft; a one-time purchase. (unless they get attacked and need to be replaced)

Yeah I was referring to front range cities actually, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo. I think Fort Collins is still a nice town, Boulder is ok but expensive. and the east slope mountain towns are ok. Aspen is western slope a beautiful place but very expensive.

From Wikipedia,
The Western Slope has climate zones that include the desert, mountains, mountain lakes, and river valleys. As a result there are a number of outdoor recreational options that may include rock climbing, hiking, skiing, horseback riding and other activities. Crested Butte, Aspen, Telluride, and Vail are skiing areas. National forests include White River National Forest, Grand Mesa National Forest, Gunnison National Forest, Uncompahgre National Forest, and the San Juan National Forest. Black Canyon is in the Gunnison National Park.[8]

Glenwood Springs has the world's largest hot springs pool, fairy caves, and whitewater rafting. Events in Aspen include the Aspen Musical Festival, the Wine and Food Classic, and Theatre Aspen. Vineyards and wineries are found in Palisade and Grand Junction.[8] Mesa Verde National Park is the home of cliff-dwellings of the Ancient Puebloans. Dinosaur National Monument and Colorado National Monument are other areas of interest. Two of the many rivers of the Western Slope are the Colorado River and Crystal River.

For skiing they forgot Purgatory north of Durango and Powder Horn which is near Grand Junction. They are both nice smaller ski areas but still have a lot of great terrain and are more affordable than the big name ski areas.

It just depends what you like to do there are lots of recreational opportunities, hiking, biking, skiing, camping, river rafting, exploring archeological sites, music festivals. off road adventures. Not a lot of city stuff but great outdoor adventure.
