I see a lot of eBikes cruising around Denver so maybe some of these commuters visit this forum and can keep an eye out for me. Here's my Bike Index profile where I listed it as stolen https://bikeindex.org/bikes/2716746/ and here's the information about the bike and contact information if anyone happens to see the bike cruising around. I haven't seen my exact Green HeyBike Brawn model in Denver so it should stick out like a sore thumb if anyone is riding it around. https://guide.denverdonate.com/all/browse/stolen-heybike-ebike-in-downtown-denver-co The bike was locked up with (what I thought was) a decent Kryptonite chain but in less than 5-minutes after coming out of the store from shopping it was gone, chain and all.

I hate that style of bike stand. So many times I have seen people lock their bikes to stands like that not realizing that if you wrap the chain around any two adjacent posts you can just slip the chain off the stand and carry the whole bike and chain away.

Yep, I am a fan of double locking my eBike. Bike alarms are good too, I have one mounted to my other eBike, and eventually will end up with one on both eBikes.

But even alarms and multiple locks are not a promise your prized eBike will be there when you return.

This is a great bummer. I had a bike stolen from the back of my truck, and am familiar with the feeling of finding your bike gone. Mine had two cable locks. No doubt they used a cordless grinder to cut the cables, which they left for me. I have such a grinder and they cut through cable locks like butter. Chains take just a bit longer but still are easy to cut through.

Hope you find your bike undamaged. Check OfferUp and CraigsList.

Smaug is going to need to weigh in here. He had an ebike stolen this summer, while vacationing in Colorado Springs. Someone should contact the Colorado Board of Tourism. I'm a New Englander who is starting to feel a certain amount of trepidation about visiting their fair state, especially while ebikes are disappearing right and left.

I had an eBike stolen in CO too, my Ride1UP Portola. Mine was stolen from CO Springs. There are a lot of bums in CO, maybe related to it being super blue politically and also being drug-infested. Bums go around with thieving tools looking for expensive bikes. Mine just had a cheap cable lock, so I made it easy.

I think they should have a special task force to look into it every time a bum has a multi-thousand dollar eBike, even though he can't afford rent or food. I'm surprised there isn't a bunch of vigilante violence.

Did you happen to record the serial number at home? If so, put in a police report. CO Springs had an online form with which to do this, so if they recover the bike after busting the bum for something else, they know it's yours.

I'm surprised to read it got stolen with a Kryptonite chain. Did you happen to do the right thing re. their insurance plan? We have a member here who snaps a pic of his bike every time he locks it up to be able to prove it was locked up properly to the lock mfr. (he's a specialty insurance guy)

Yes, I have the vin number and the receipt of my purchase too. I filed a police report with the Denver Police Department. I was thinking about walking through some of the local homeless encampments in Denver, and by the shelters, to see if I can find the bike. Could be hostile...thinking I shouldn't shave and wear some beat up clothes to fit in before I go strolling through some of those areas, especially along the Cherry Creek Trail. I'm monitoring Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist to see if anyone takes a picture and tries to sell it. I contacted EZPawn and they said the pawn shops in Denver run the serial number in a database which checks the Denver PD stolen bike database before accepting bikes too.

Nice job with the due diligence!

I just got a new Kryptonite integrated chain lock and was reading their literature for their insurance program. One has to do the right thing right from the start to get that coverage. Lock receipt, bike S/N, etc. I've already blown it by losing the lock's receipt and I haven't even used the lock yet!

By the way, how did you have that sweet LowePro camera backpack fastened to the rear rack? It had to be pretty secure to trust it to protect that lens shown in your avatar...

Haha, you know your photography bags. That was a bummer too because that isn't cheap bag. I picked that bag up about 3-years ago from B&H photo, it's reinforced and opens on three sides so it made a great addition to the bike. I fastened it to the bike rack mounted above the wheel as a permanent addition to the bike. That lens in my avatar is Canon 600mm F4 I was using to shoot a Japanese Ladies Professional Golf Tournament. (JLPGA)

I hope they didn't get the lens too!?

When my Portola was stolen, the last jab in the ribs was that my trunk bag was on the back and they got my fancy Topeak multi-tool...

Look what I found that just went up on Facebook Marketplace nearby. Selling a HeyBike Brawn that looks just like mine for $150. (the bike retails for $1500) I sent this link to the Denver PD hopefully they can look into this. When I called them, they said that because it's being sold out of Aurora (Denver suburb) to call them, I called Aurora PD and they said that the Denver PD has to handle it because the bike was stolen in Denver.

Actually tell the Aurora police you are going over to recover your stolen property and request an escort. If they don’t want to provide an escort mention that you will be armed. Then they will show up.
Bring the purchase receipt and copies of the serial number.
This is precisely why I suggest putting a photograph of yourself with the bike rolled up inside the handlebars and seat tube.

You need to make one more call, I think to Denver. Tell them you called Aurora PD and they're saying what they said. They are both pointing to the other, neither one wants to do the work.

In their defense, it's probably because they're busy with higher profile crimes, but ONE OF THEM has to be accountable in order for vigilante justice to not take over. They're under-manned.

The sad thing is that if you were to go over there and bust some heads, the police would suddenly be more interested.

The suggestion to also look at Craigslist is a good one. Now that Facebook Marketplace has mostly taken over the legitimate local sales, Craigslist is where the shady sales go.

If you DO go check the bike, bring pepper spray or something non-lethal.
