cool rides for sure. I like speed I like it a lot. That being said with the constant race for speed on ebikes we are going to box ourselves in. The authorities are watching the ebike community as another source of revenue with re guards to license and insurance. I would think if we want to continue to operate as a bicycle we are going to be careful with how we display our builds. But we are our own worst enemies. Cool bikes though. P.S. they run almost 200mph at the Isle O Man Electrics My Man

Believe it or not, the eBikes most involved in accidents are not the fast ones, it's the slow 20mph ones, not because they're more dangerous, it's because there's so many more of them.

I remember back in the 80s, the federal gubberment tried to ban open class sport bikes that were capable of 180+ mph so they commissioned a study called the Hurt Report to justify what they wanted to do. They had to give up on the idea after the report found that the bikes most over represented in fatal accidents weren't open class bikes, it was the lower cost 600cc class. The report found that, because there were a lot more 600s, and riders were more likely to be younger, and have less experience, they were involved in the most fatal accidents.

My point is fast eBikes or not, the authorities going to do what they're going to do, and speed will probably have little to do with it. Here in Dallas there's only ever been one fatal accident on a city trail, and it involved a regular bicycle that struck, and killed a pedestrian.

B nut I rode 60yrs. on m/c after 41 bikes from cushman scooters to Hyper sport bikes. WERA registered rider. The danger with the bikes lies with the operator. A modern 600cc sport bike will run lethal speeds as the liter bikes. The 180mph electronically controlled limit was an agreement between the foreign manufactures after Suzuki broke the Honda Blackbird top speed record for street bikes.
Ironically the Suzuki was named Hayabusa which is a peregrine falcon. The main diet of the hayabusa or peregrine falcon was a black bird. lol.... And statistics show that the most m/c accidents are registered by Cruiser riders. The cause is older unprepared and impaired riders. Not the Hyper fast riders as they usually wear good gear and are by far better riders. I will assure you that your so called 60mph bicycle is not within it`s element. And by the way the Hurt report study had nothing to do with top speed of sport bikes. That was called a Gentleman`s agreement between the manufactures as I stated above.

Mostly agree with knightrider.

There are some sportbike riders who are irresponsible kids; they do kill themselves by being stupid, but I believe the bit you said about Harley Pirates knocking themselves out of the gene pool because they use their bikes as bar taxis.

As for stuff we can't control, deer have got to figure into it for all types of riders, and ditto the phone zombie teenagers and twenty-somethings taking us out. (and THEY will take us out even on eBikes)

Amen on the deer. Aug. 9 2013 I decided to deer hunt with my BMW R1000RR. Over the bars she came at 2:00 pm. Air ambulance to trauma center for 4 days and after months on the mend I continued back to riding. Let me tell you a deer is the real thing. Hit one and you will find out.

I like that chopper cool made from scratch build.
I ride on city streets a lot and sometimes you need to go 30 mph+ to keep from impeading traffic. It's just a matter of time til they tax us. Until then we need to show respect to pedestrians and other drivers.

Please explain why you think my bike is not in it's element.

I would be concerned with the wheels, tires and brakes. None of the before mentioned parts are made for 60mph. Tires on bikes are not rated for the heat build up on a 60mph machine. You might get away with a high end tires like maxxis hook worms or something treaded like them. You better do your home work. The 14g spokes and 32 or 34 hole rims are no match for a 60mph hard hit. I admire your spirit but be careful. Rode rash is no joke my friend.
