This subject has most likely been discussed many times. One thing I recommend for your safety on the road is a mirror, mounted on your
Left side. If your one of those crazy people across the big pond & drive down the wrong side of the road, mount it on the right. Believe me
It beats looking over your shoulder. I posted this here because I,m sure most that’s been riding a while already know that. It is about safety
First and for most. I,m live away from town, but think that can even be more dangerous at time then being a lot of traffic. Riding where
I do, you forget about the traffic & tend to get careless. So please get a good mirror. I bought mine from Amazon, I will go & see if I can find
It on there site. It is well made & hangs to the left just right for a great vision. Fly. Here you go. https://www.amazon.com/Resistant-Handlebar-Adjustable-Rearview-ME-005LS/dp/B07MFD8QF3

Helmet mounted mirrors are great - forgot I used to use them years ago - now that you mentioned, I’ll prob change out

Only downsides to this helmet-mounted mirror is I had to take the sun visor off my helmet (Bontrager Solstice) to use it, and my other helmet has a flip down face shield that precludes it. If you're OK with these two things, I can 100% recommend it.

My bike helmet came with a cheaply made face shield that cut my skin so I threw that out - I bought the bike end mirrors bc I was trying to save space on the handlebars - but I’m gonna try the helmet mount for sure

Here, you can see it in action, along with my equally dorky Cat Ears. :geek:

Do you still ride that bike, since you got into e-bikes? Fly
Yep. Believe it or not, I put more miles on that bike than the rest of the fleet combined.

I never ride it less than about 18 miles when I take it out, and during the in-season, I'm usually out on it several times per week. My average ride on it is probably 35 miles.

Bought a couple mirrors; returned them; not one is close to eye level. Helmet mirror; don't use a helmet; know I should, but useless in the winter when my head and face are wrapped up to beat the chill.

Don't know if this is available outside of Europe but there are left and right versions available. It's the only practicle one I have found, the spherical mirror gives a very good rear view and it can be rotated out of the way for parking but like retractable car mirrors it can be rotated back to the original position, so no loss of adjustment etc.:)
Not so cheap though and not sure what is new, I have had one for over 2 years:unsure:!

As I’m knocking on a bit so I struggle looking over my shoulder so fitted 2 motorbike mirrors.
I didn’t bother with the bar mounts as the mirror don’t protrude far enough to see what’s behind you.
I removed the brake lever bolt and replaced it with a longer one to receive a 2” long bracket to receive the mirror arm.
Connection to the bracket was by recutting the metric course thread on the arm to receive a 10mm stud extender.
Into this I screwed a piece of 10mm stud. Connection to the 2” bracket was by using a nylon nut.
Between the stud extender and the bracket I fitted a 3/4” rubber tap washer.
With the nut tightened the right amount the mirrors can be swivelled in or out when negotiating gaps.
Will post a couple of photos.
Left image initially used a spring washer for tension but this tended to rotate after a while so used rubber tap washer on the next attempt which seems to work ok.
Quite handy if they wack something as they fold out of the way, as often happens coming through my garden gate.
The centre of the mirror lines up with end of the handle bar so allows a view to the side and directly behind with a bit of head movement.

I’m currently trying a rear view camera instead of a traditional mirror. On my recumbent, when someone is riding directly behind me, I cannot see them with a bar end mirror, plus a bar end mirror gets knee’d out of adjustment on a regular basis in turns.
I admit the clarity of a bar end mirror is much better than the camera, especially when the sun hits the monitor at a bad angle but that’s only on certain directions while riding during early mornings hours. If I get back into 4+ hour rides, I’ll need a fully charged spare monitor.

I have one i will send you for free :)

I don’t know what the consumption rate is of the camera but what about powering it via a 12v alarm battery. You could mount it in a small cycle mounted bag to which you’d connect the cameras supply cable.
A 3ah battery is about £18 in the uk.
Depending on the depletion rate you could charge it at home via a small 1amp chargers that can be source of Amazon for a few pounds.
I do this for the motorcycle indicators on my e- trike.

The only one that can rival it is the EVT Safe Zone helmet-mounted mirror:

↑ That one's nice because it stays with the helmet, so can easily go from bike to bike and not be getting banged out of alignment in the garage. It's super dorky-looking though.

Both of those are Made in USA as well.
+1 on the mirrycle
