My partner bought an e-bike recently and it is not road legal but we are now looking to get this registered and road legal with the DVSA.

Has anyone gone through this process successfully?

From what I have read online, the process is to complete an MSVA form and present the bike to the DVSA. It should have modifications including a single mirror, dipped headlight, stop light and a reg plate holder etc then of course MOT, road tax and insurance.

However I'm getting confused because some information says the bike would be classed as an L1e-b electric moped, but others say that L1e have a max speed of 25mph.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, especially if you have successfully legalised your bike.

Thanks

So, you are obviously in Bolton England. They do like to keep it confusing over there. I think as a moped you can go up to 28mph. The Bikesure UK website had some interesting information. They may be able to help you more. It seems that if your bike is electric, you will have to sign up for the tax, but not actually pay it. I'll post what I found here:

If you watch any of the GCN channel on YouTube they ride around Bath England quite a lot. They have bus lanes, bike lanes, car lanes and parking lanes, all of which merge, switch positions and seemingly just change their minds about where they ought to be. 28 miles mph will be the absolute least of your worries, no british bike vacations for me.
