Hi,

First post, but I'm hoping there's someone out there that might be able to help.

I have an Orbea Gain with the x35 Mahle system in it. I bought a range extender some time ago and its been great up until last week. I got the dreaded flashing pink button the other week and the message on the app to update the firmware. I took it into a shop and they applied the firmware update, eventually, not without difficulties it would seem. It did resolve the flashing pink button, but I now seem to have a range extender that is bricked.

When I turn the extender on it powers up the bike and charges for 30s, after which it switches off. It is possible to charge the bike up, but I have to press the extender's on button each time it turns off....not ideal. The complicate matters, we got this fixed in France whilst away on holiday, so not much chance of returning back to the original shop. I've since taken it to a shop in England and they've reapplied the firmware to the bike, but the extender won't take an update at all. They're advice is to buy another one.

I'm not quite ready to give up on a £500 piece of kit. I'm getting very little out of Mahle and was hoping one of the wise heads on this forum might have some advice.

Thanks

Lee

A wee update from my Mahle contact. Basically not willing to deal with me directly, need to go through a dealer......which is disappointing. Don't suppose anyone can recommend a dealer in and around Leeds? I previously went to Woodrups and I get the sense they thing it's unrecoverable.

Thanks

Hi,
I have the same problem. After two years of use, the x35 extender switches off after one minute.

In principle any 42 V battery will work. If you are prepared to cut the charger cable to have access, no need to buy the Mahle extender.
The charger plug has 4 pins, but the charger cable forwards only 2 of these. I connected a 42 V battery to these, and it works.
Only the two batteries should have a similar charging state in the moment being connected, otherwise you may get an overcurrent error with purple flashing iWOC. In the photo my "arrangement", with the second battery under the sattle.
This error however is easy to reset, by shortcutting the two named pins by a resistor, 500 Ohms works fine.
Also worth knowing is maybe that the battery of the Orbea Gain has a 6 V-connection for headlight, but this is not originally used. However, the needed cable is available separately. With a DC-DC converter, a USB plug can be used. Also maybe visible on the photo.
