I was coming home today after spending time at the hospital with my mom and saw ambulances and state police at our local Wawa - I know all of the troopers there so I was inquiring as to what was going on …

We have quite a few teens who go speeding down our road on e-bikes every afternoon and I was always fearful something was going to happen, as I’ve been behind them on a few occasions and they do ride recklessly in the road, doing stupid stuff

Apparently the kid was showing off in the parking lot when an SUV pulled in and he rammed the side of the SUV - thankfully, the kid was not seriously hurt

I hope this is a wake up call for those teens who ride recklessly then hang out at the Wawa to PLEASE obey the laws - we don’t want to see anyone hurt, apart from the fact we don’t need stricter laws on e-bikes because of the misbehavior

Thankfully, all was well in the end

News 12 (for non-nj optonline people...local nj news channel on optimum online)) is having a bunch of stories about these. Florham Park is cracking down. I hope we don't end up with prohibitive regulations because of knee jerk reactions. There are many laws already and really only need to enforce present laws.

Those store parking lots are private property. Management should be telling the kids to leave the premises if they are not there to shop. If they refuse to leave, the police should be called. In some jurisdictions, the store can be responsible for certain damages/injuries if, for example, customers complained about kids riding through the parking lot recklessly and the store did nothing about it.

Problem is, like our local 7-11 is, there are 6 state troopers patrolling 4 towns

They don’t have the bandwidth for regular monitoring

We have speeders going routinely up and down our roads and many neighbors have called and complained, but nothing is done

We all know the drill, it’s like mopeds back in the seventies. Dumb parents buy dumber kids motorized toys, the kids make them go faster and go out and do dumb kid stuff with them, getting maimed or killed in the process. The parents blame and sue everybody, the legislators go nuts and the toys get banned outright or the rules surrounding them get so weighty that they might as well be.

People can’t be responsible for themselves or their offspring.

It’s why we can’t nice things
