Is e-biking with a bad back possible?

Although I bought my ebikes online, in your situation I'd suggest visiting local bike shops. They will work with you and allow you to try several models, get you fitted properly, etc. I've been impressed with REI. Their return policy is fantastic. Some other shops will rent you a bike to try for a day or more.

Regarding hauling your bike, there are racks that have a small ramp so you push your bikes on to it rather than lift it.

I’m late to the game, but in general, I would ask your doctor or physical therapist before buying an ebike. I fractured my 12th vertebrae and had three herniated discs and narrowing at the L4 and L5. I am doing better after a partial diseconomy and opening up of my spine, (two surgeries). My surgeon and my physical therapist are not on the same page, (the physical therapist said that riding is bad, but the surgeon said that it is good, so I went with the answer that I liked:rolleyes:). So far so good. I think that only you and your doctor can really answer you question.

If you do decide to get an ebike, a good saddle and good suspension seat post will be kind to your back. I use a Cane Creek eeSilk Gravel seat post and my wife uses a Cane Creek Thud Buster. Red Shift and Kinect also make very good suspension seat posts that don’t make you feel like you are riding a pogo stick.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.
I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. Compression fx T12, herniation of C5/C6, bulged T8 and lumbar fusion of L4,L5 & S1. Both knees have had meniscus tears with 3 cleanup surgeries. An ebike has been my savior to get back into cycling. With some mods to reduce shock even more with SR Suntour suspension seatpost and fatter tires. Sometimes I push a little too far and T8 gets painful due to arthritis, a foam roller to tackles that. And my right knee swells, but a compression sleeve takes care of it overnight, then I’m ready for more. Doing 20-30 miles daily typically on a 500watt geared hub drive ebike on PAS 6 out of 9 at 19mph typically.

Hey I've had 16 surgery's 5 backs double fusions, just had first knee replacement and another to do. But my surgeon and doctor are the ones who told me about Engwe engine pro 750w folding , full suspension, nice rear cargo rack, fat tires, cruize control, 8 SPD hydraulic brakes , can regenerate power back into battery down hill or when in pedal assist 1 or 2 and pedaling e bike. Had it do 28 mph. Yes heavy but I can ride it and I weigh 250lbs and e bike is 83lbs. So I found a bike rack with ramp fits 2" hitch and it works great. So.yes you can and if your a positive thinking person you find a way.

**UPDATE**

Well after riding 87 miles so far I have not had a problem with my back hurting.
I did switch out the stock seat ,seat post and pedals, which makes the ride way less jarring to my body.

Good for you sounds like you found a perfect ride. I might suggest getting a back support of some type maybe like an extra wide kidney belt type to help support your back while riding.
