Hi guys,

We’re a Boston-based startup founded by MIT alumni, focusing on creating innovative, smart, user-friendly charging solutions for e-bikes/scooters.

Most e-bike chargers push batteries to 100% every time — which is known to shorten battery lifespan and waste energy.

This Smart Charger is designed based on "80/20" EV charging rule with four charging modes:

● 20% (Shipping Mode): Safe battery level for transport and shipping.
● 50% (Storage Mode): Ideal for seasonal riders. Optimal charge level for long-term storage.
● 80% (Default - Daily Ride Mode): The optimal “everyday sweet spot” for maximum battery longevity.
● 100% (Adventure Mode): Full power for long trips and extended rides.

This Smart Charger also comes with 3A fast charging and is 30% smaller than regular charger, which potentially can cut charging time by half and makes it very travel-friendly.

The charger will fit for 36v, 48v and 52v batteries. It will come with a standard DC barrel (5.5mm × 2.1mm) plus multiple adapters for DC (5.5mm × 2.5mm), XLR, and Junlei 3-Pins.

Looks very interesting but why not compatible with Bosch and other major E-bike brand batteries?
We are doing research to ensure safety and compatibility with brands with proprietary systems or connectors like Bosch. While the initial launch will have standard plugs (DC, XLR, Junlei 3-pins), we are hoping to follow up with more compatible connectors very soon. Thanks for the question!

Thanks! We are going to launch a kickstarter campaign first on 11/4 with an early bird price $59. The final delivery will be around the end of December or early Jan 2026.
 
Can you change the charging rate?
I would like to be able to charge at 2ah for battery longevity.
Good point. For this initial product, it is a fast charger with a fixed 3a. The adjustable charging rate function is on the roadmap next year.
 
Can't you control how much charge you want with any charger by just turning off the charger? :rolleyes:
You can control the speed of your car by turning the engine on and off repeatedly. But it is easier to use the throttle. I'd rather have a charger that tells me the state of charge and also turns off automatically when the SOC is reached.
 
This is the direction eBike battery's are moving toward, and it's the reason this charger is obsolete before it's even on the market. These are already reality for higher end eBikes, and also custom battery packs. I've built 3 so far using these smart bms with bluetooth. The extra cost between a bluetooth bms and one without is negligible. The information they provide is revolutionary.

Yep, you can even use a watt meter to see how much and how long it takes to add X amount of charge, then going forward use an electrical timer for the charger.
 
Well heck, you can use your electrical utility meter outside. Just run out every 15 minutes and check.

This is like a microwave. You don't need a clock on it. Just turn it on and watch a wall clock. When the time is up, turn off the microwave. Or not.

Me, I have undiagnosed ADHD. I need timers and automatic turn offs cause I might see something shiny and get distracted.
 
My charger takes about 190W when the battery is empty and 260W when it is nearly full.
The battery voltage is proportional to the difference in the wattages. Approximately:
190W=0%
225W=50%
260W=95%
I try to stop it near 95%, but if it goes past that, the watts start decreasing, and I let it go to full charge.
I let the battery rest for 30-60 minutes while I get ready to ride.
I have to walk past my utility meter on the way to the garage to check up on it.
I dont look at the meter because my plasma TV takes 300W-500W.
 
I am a bit confused by what you published.
Would not the power being drawn by the charger be the highest when the battery is the lowest and the lowest when the battery reaches full charge?
 
That’s an interesting concept. A lot of riders don’t realize that routinely charging to 100% adds stress to the cells, especially when the battery stays full overnight or sits in a warm room. Having preset modes like 80% or 50% could make it easier for people to build better charging habits without needing timers or watt meters. The fixed 3A output seems like a good middle ground too - fast enough for daily use but not too aggressive for battery health. It’ll be interesting to see how it compares to built-in smart BMS systems once those become more common
