Hi all
I have a Voilmart 250 36 v front wheel conversion and have a new problem and I was hoping for some advice from the forum to diagnose the problem.

there is a horrible grating noise when I first start to accelerate, which soon disappears and is replaced by the normal engine hum.
I have removed the brake on it and eliminated any other possibility other than the noise is coming from the motor,
I have included a link with a recording of the sound on, I have started the motor, gone past the grating sound into the normal engine hum, braked and repeated

many thanks in advance for any help

update, if I accelerate very slowly and slowly increase speed, there is no grating sound ( obviously I expect the problem to get worse and want to resolve it, just thought the more info I give the better chance of an accurate diagnosis )

That is likely either the bearings or the nylon gears in the hub motor. If it is a direct drive motor, then you are down to bearings.
There is a very small chance it is a controller issue, if it is feeding a really dirty spiky drive power to the motor at start.

My money is on it being a geared hub motor, and the nylon gears are toast. You won't know until you crack the motor open.

thanks for the answers, I have had the teeth on the nylon gears chewed up before in an identical motor, that was more of a rhythmic grinding noise rather than a screeching grating noise like I have now, it may be a different gear problem, so I will crack it open and look at the bearings and check the magnets, will let you know the verdict, thanks again for the answers
