Grease for geared hub motors?

I think most manufactures recommend white lithium grease. At Lucas, red and tacky may be a little too thick and tacky for the motor.

Factor in the coming colder wetter climate thats just around the corner. It might be a good idea to even go a bit lighter if it gets really cold in your area. Petroleum products become even tackier the colder it gets.
How often is wise to re-grease the motor under normal operation? My motor is approaching 3900 km's.
