Hi

I have a Giant Trance X Advanced E+ Elite 2 equipped with a simple RideControl Ergo3 controller.

I wanted to replace it with a RideControl Ergo 2 Drop Bar, which is combined with a Ride Dash Evo display. I checked the compatibility list, and they should fit.

The installation should be simple: attach the controller and display to the handlebars and connect the cable.

The tricky part is that the plug from the current controller and the new one differ.

Both use the same 6-pin Giant connector, but the current one has a male plug and the new one has a female plug.

So, I need to connect the female plug from the new controller to the female plug which is located in a small hole near the handlebars.

The question is: am I connecting something wrong? I looked at the manual, according to which the displays and controllers are connected to the cable coming out of that hole near the handlebars. However, if it is the right cable, are there any adapters (i.e. a cable with two male plugs)? I bought one such adapter on Aliexpress but unfortunately found the plugs to be too large (even though the description indicated compatibility with electric bikes).

I attach a picture of a female plug. I need to connect two such plugs.

A lot of Giant's part are proprietary. How do you know the pinouts are the same even if you could match them? Maybe you should hotwire the 2 ends together to see if this will even work. You could use pins cut to the same length with possibly a bit of tape in the middle to protect from shorts. If it somehow does work, you might be able to get someone to 3D print you an adapter and then you could glue pins into it. I'd be interested to know if the pinout does match. They usually change the type of plug for a reason.

That's a really good idea biknut. Hopefully his controller and display do match. Oh yeah, and as we all know, don't think for a moment matching colors of wire means anything.
