Ok, so I forgot my batteries were in a un- heated shed and i think my batteries are frozen. They still show 53 vdc. I'm going to warm them up slowly to room temp in the house. Not going to charge them until it's needed.
My biggest concern is that by leaving them out to freeze i ruined them.
I hope not.
Thoughts anybody?

Thanks, ya I'm letting them warm up. I'll charge later. About balancing, not sure i have the capability to do so, unless the charger that came with the bike does that. IDK.

Full charge usually balaces the cells. However in case a cell or group of cells is going or gone bad i like to charge to full,
then wait for an hour or so then check the state of charge and if need be i'll re-introduce the charger until it says full again.

I have a lifepo4 that needs to be balanced once every 2 months.
Gonna have to tear that apart to check the pouch cells in it, later next year me thinks.

The batteries are room temperature now, and I'm charging them up.
The thing is, I'm freaked out about charging these batteries in the house. I've made a charging box ( old ammo can) and charge them in that in case they explode. I have no where to store batteries outside due to extreme wx temperature. Over 100° F in the summer and 10° f in the winter when stored in the garage.
I'm just going to keep them in the house from now on, and charge them out in the shop, but not leaving them outside again. Sure hope I didn't damage them. Time will tell.

ok, this is going to sound strange but just take a read ;)

The ammo box is good and you can make a better one with a couple layers of this:

in another metal container.

Ok, summer..can you have a hole dug like into a hill if ya have a small hill on yur property dig like a root cellar..my buddy
in dooms virginia does this, we even used stones from his property to make a little wall inside the root cellar.

So, do ya have any electric in that shed? Canit be ran minimally...like just a wire for an electric heating pad like one from here?

I have read that getting lithium batteries cold and using them while cold isn't great but it isn't the end, they just cant be charged while cold, but their BMS will protect them from that. It was an article that was actually talking about LFP batteries so I don't know if it's true for our NMC batteries.

All the heating pads that I have found for people have an auto shut off and will shut off after an hour or so.

Pet bed heaters are what you want. This little one for kitties is only 10W.

I charge batteries in our wood stove (when we aren't burning wood) it's cast iron and soapstone and has a double wall insulated SS stovepipe, and it's on a stone masonry hearth.

Yes my ammo can has one of those pet before heaters in it. When I stored the batteries in the house I housed both batteries in the can with the heater in between the 2 batteries. This works good except it's still in the house. I guess I could keep that configuration in the garage. I might just do that. As it is, I have my lithium battery powered motorcycle gloves in there that I keep charged, but there pretty small 7.3 vdc.
