I have a freesky Himalaya and until recently their customer service use to be great now. Terrible....

It has a Bafang 750w rear hub motor and this pictured controller. A couple months ago I geared up and the bike wouldn't power on. I did a bunch of testing on my Dad's matching bike and it turns out my display went bad. Now I can order a replacement display for $160 from freesky but with the terrible service and the fact everything is seeming proprietary I am wondering if I should just replace the controller and display. My current display is a 6 pin connector and I purchased 3 different displays hoping that one of them would have been speaking the same language with no luck. I hate the idea of giving them more money and having 0 ability to change it out in the future.

Your advice appreciated.

You have a Lishui controller. The problem is the displays are bought from other companies and then programmed to match certain productions of bike. It is very hard to get a display to match independently. This is true of most ebike setups. You can buy a new Lishui controller with its display, or switch to a KT controller, which is programmable with its own display. You have to match your voltage, amps and plug types, the size of the box will also matter. You can watch some YouTube videos on KT controllers if you think that's what you want to do. Area 13 has a good one on programming. Lishui and KT are both on Aliexpress, if you want to compare them. One thing to watch out for is that some are listed for torque sensors now and that would not be compatible with your bike. Controllers are always an area of chaos on ebikes, so come back if you have more questions.
