We'll see. Bafang got their nose bloodied the first time they tried it. The M325 and M625 were supposed to replace the 02 and HD when they first came out, and they essentially failed in the market. Originally Bafang also required the use of their Smile batteries and that is no longer the case with whats on the market now. So maybe they will not be such buttheads about it. But the change is happening. Reportedly its being done because of battery safety (by the way the change will also incorporate new, Bafang-branded displays).

Sorry I missed that question.
In 2024, there is very likely no difference. The BBS02A was replaced in 2016 by the B. However, given that Bafang will make a modified motor for any seller who wants it so long as the order is big enough, there's some uncertainty on what you are getting. Thats why I only buy or recommend you buy from a very limited list of domestic USA suppliers.

as an example of this sort of variance, my BBSHDs from Luna all work great on 30a. But the HDs sold by California Ebike are limited to 28a if they are the 52v version (you can't increase the setting past 28a) and can only be set to 30a if they are sold as the 48v version. Also the CaliE motors have a power tap for lighting that the Luna motors do not.
There are separate reasons for this 28a /30a business that have nothing to do with CaliE, but thats a whole other story.
