I have an F35 fat tire ebike with rear hub power and monitor by ZCRiding which I never heard of. the wires go from monitor straight to hub and i dont see a controller. it worked well for about 10 rides then got this error I think after going through water. I unplugged and replugged all connection several times. I'd love to clear the error. but if not, would I need to replace monitor and rear hub?

Looking through your pictures the only thing is see which is suspect is the electrical tape around the red and black wires. They look like the main power wires from the battery. If you can i would redo those connections and use some waterproof heat shrink. It's probably not what's causing your issue. Getting moisture in there will mess things up over time. You'll need to establish where the error is. It could be between your controller and the hall sensors in the motor. I'm assuming you don't have any motor power when you try to pedal?

Thanks Major. I thought the power wires looked suspicious but got power so I didn't focus on that. I'll try your suggestion to clean that up. Yes, there's no power to pedals or throttle. How would you check and fix the hall sensor and controller connection?

Unfortunately you're going to be watching a lot of YouTube videos about using an ebike tester and diagnosing with a multimeter. It's totally doable so give yourself some time to figure it out. Here's one that shows someone testing the hall sensors. The testers being used in the vid are fairly inexpensive. You will need to get to know what the wires are going to in your bike. Hopefully your bike can be tested as easily as the video.

Update: I finally took my bike to an EV shop to diagnose. Turns out that it's lacking a controller which they said is really odd. The wires appear to be wired directly which I didn't think was possible. I'm going to install a controller and could use recommendations.

Hi, this makes no sense to me. Could you tell me the full name and model of your ebike? What I don't understand is that you have a display, what is it talking to? Could you also show how your battery is situated? A number of bikes have a controller sitting in the battery bracket, are you sure it is not there? You can open up your battery bracket area to check. Also, if you know, what exactly is your motor and one more thought, if you follow your display cord, where does it go? It has to go somewhere. Your pictures show, you have julet connectors. You can use needles or pins to test the female side and small alligator clips or probes for the male side, but honestly you have to figure out what's going on first.

the bike is from BPM Imports F35 but they no longer carry the bike. the wiring and features seem a little different than the reviewed model. Although my bike looks identical, it doesn't have working brake or headlights. Everything else operated fine for about a year and dozen rides. I can't imagine the controller within the battery bracket.

Would adding a controller and display solve the problem?

I can't imagine an ebike with a display and no controller. You can add a new controller and it will need its own display, but you are going to have to find the wiring harness and see how things are hooked up anyway, so you might as well have a look. I will bet somewhere in that frame is a controller. Follow that display cable where ever it takes you and let us know what you find.

I didn't see any place that a controller could be concealed other than the area next to the crank where the wires are tucked. I took to an ebike shop and they couldn't find a controller either. they are equally surprised.

That’s exactly where the controller is on my bike. Right next to the crank behind an access panel

OK, I dropped a screenshot of your bike into Google Lense. It came up with a number of ebikes with the same frame. Aostermotor, Addmotor and a few other companies (including Home Depot's Sgrey18 which has an available manual and shows a picture of the controller) took them on, rebadged them, some retweaked them and sold them as their own, this includes BPM. The general consensus is that the controller is in the frame near the battery pack and is the common aluminum box type. I think you are going to have to remove parts around that center triangle because that is where it is hiding. I will post some of what I found. Your motor is said to be a Bafang, which is a good solid motor, but a new controller will need to match that motor plug, and you are going to need a new display. I would also suggest you find a new ebike mechanic. If you brought your laptop to someone and said it was working a week ago and they said, "this laptop is just a screen and has no CPU, " would you trust them to fix it?

Thanks. This is great info to have but I'm pretty sure I took the battery mount apart and didn't see any place that can fit a controller. and when I follow the wires, some go up through the cross tube to the display and throttle including red & black for battery; and the other large pin w/small pin goes straight to the rear hub. The bike did come with a manual with the wiring diagram which shows a controller. Not sure it's accurate for my bike since mine didn't come with working brake light or head light. I'll see if the bike shop can locate since it's currently in their shop. Otherwise, I'll pick it up later this week and check the area again.

Sometimes a controller will go bad and the user of the direct drive motor can wire things directly...sounds like that what you have.
Running a hub motor without a controller is possible, but it requires some modifications and careful monitoring.

I bought the bike new from bpm imports. they no longer sell the bike and haven't been very responsive to my many inquiries.
