My husband really wants to get an e-bike. Specifically, he really wants to get a $5000 trek eMTB. That's out of our budget. I'm trying to find a compromise. I'd like to find something closer to the $1-2k range.

What he wants to be able to do with the e-bike: ride around town, ride easy mtb trails, be able to pull a kid trailer up logging roads.

Even just a suggestion of what specs to be looking at would be helpful. Thanks!

There is a $4,000 Yamaha e-bike I fell in love with, but, alas, it is not in my budget either.

Companies like JuicedBikes, Ride1up, CSCmotorcycles and Rad Power Bikes offer e-bikes below 2 grand.
I would recommend getting an e-bike with at least 36 volts and 500 watt motor.

Maybe you can both get one.
Do some reading on pages like the one at the link.
