Hi,
I’ve been looking into e-bikes recently.
Mainly to go to work instead of going by car. It’s around 15 km’s (one way).
I’d probably prefer to DIY it. Besides liking DIY. I want to have no limit to assisting while pedaling. I tested a bosh middrive and it feels weird when it suddenly turns off at 25 km/h, which is slower than a regular bicycle. It doesn’t have to go crazy fast. Around 40 to 50 km/h should be good. I’ve seen DIY systems with a thumb drive or such, but I’d prefer to have pedal assist.
Is it possible to have this with a DIY kit or is it something complex? I read a mid drive is hard on the chain and needs servicing.
There’s no crazy hills or such, so I was thinking of a front or probably a rear wheel drive. Or even a two wheel drive? Any big advantages on a two wheel drive?
Which rear wheel drive hub motor would you recommend? Besides all this I want it to be fairly discreet. I don’t have a frame or anything else yet. Anything important to watch out for?
For a DIY batterypack, I see a lot of different cells. Some with lower mAh are more expensive than some with a higher mAh? What are important things to look for? Are there any complete kits or almost complete kits you would recommend?
