Bike trailer

If you haven't pulled a trailer with two wheels, it's not good. Having a wheel bounce over a stone or lifted concrete can literally upset the apple cart. The easiest trailers to pull connect to the seat post, not the rear axle, and are suspended single-wheel designs. More versatile and safer, especially if you ride a lot of single-track.

Nope never pulled a trailer from a bike. I do have well over a half million maybe even over 1 million miles pulling tandem axel equipment trailers through some crazy places. Not that that means anything when it comes to pulling a bike trailer.
I've got a Schwinn two wheeled trailer that was meant for kids to ride in. I'm repurposing it to haul a solar panel, aux battery and camping gear for some long tours. I just have to get well first. No worries on single tracks never been on one. I mostly ride country dirt / gravel roads. I have long range plans to make a cross country ride in a few years.

Single track is my favorite to ride. Riding from Port Angeles to Monterey was amazing, but riding for days on single track, never seeing another person, is the best. If you are going to try to ride across the states, find a single-wheel trailer that you like. Good luck.

You'd like my place I go months sometimes without seeing a single soul. Even better I can go miles and miles on local roads often without seeing a single car. Plus it's almost 2 miles down a locked private road to the nearest neighbor.....

You know the more I study the situation the more that seems possible.

I really like the box trailer they show for just a second in this video.

wow.OTH there is potential for more weight reduction(magnesium frame.carbon fiber monocoque,ad nauseam,yada,yada-the cost man!) interesting concept ,better batteries are in the pipeline as well.

The more I think on it the more a trike makes sense to pull a camping trailer. There's a very large BUT in there though! I Want my regular E-bike to explore more remote areas where the trike could never go. Then a solution also came to mind I could just carry the E-bike in the trailer.... It would instantly add 100 lbs. though. Might be doable
These guys are annoying frat boy types, but they built a trike and mounted their camper to it. Parts of it are interesting but, they don't really manage the space inside of it very well. For example, they have a couch that one of them can sit on while the other's outside pedaling the thing, but if you want to take a shower, you've got to do it outside.

The windage on that "Bikehouse" is absolutely scary! Don't bring one to Rhode Island or you will have to change the name to "Boathouse" because you will windup far, far out to sea.
Did you watch all of the video? They rode that thing towards Los Angeles and didn't seem to have problems with the high winds which were caused by the hurricane headed that way. The only thing that I can figure is they had enough weight on the thing with the generator, giant battery, and the couch inside, that it lowered the center of gravity enough they didn't have to worry about being blown about.

Sorry, no I didn't watch the whole video. The Center of Effort on that thing just makes my warning bells go off. It looks like it needs a keel. Although, a generator, couch and battery could probably be considered a keel, still I wouldn't go anywhere near it.

It's a death trap used to post on YT. Don't believe for a second that anyone actually used something so ridiculous.

Stay safe.

It's not really worth watching unless you're planning on building a camper and want ideas for what not to do in a lot of areas. I don't know how high some of the winds were that they were riding in, but they were in conditions where I'd expect that sucker to get blown into the next county at various points in the video. The guys doing it were amateurs in a lot of ways because they didn't even have patch kits for the tires, spare tubes, or a battery-powered compressor to inflate the tires. There are seeds of some good ideas there, though. The fact that it's a trike and not a trailer means that they're not dragging something behind them that can whip around independently of the bike.

This guy's got a pretty neat one that he built to camp and sell his paintings out of.

Oh, just an FYI, even though the guy offers to build folks a similar bike trailer in that article, when I emailed him to ask if he sold blueprints of his design (since shipping one of those things cross-country would cost almost as much as it did to build it) he said he just worked things out in his head as he went along and had no prints for sale. :(

You'd be surprised how many very large projects happen this way. Heck I built my house this way nearly 20 years ago!

Debates and possibilities.

As you all know I already got the little Schwinn two child trailer to use as a utility trailer for my bike for long trips. Now I'm debating if I want to modify it or start from scratch. It has neither power or brakes and I'm thinking I want both for the loads I'll be pulling. Plus I need something with about twice as much space and weight carrying ability. The frame is certainly easy enough to modify but should I is the question.

Also I want to make a fiberglass box for the trailer with a minimum size of 31x54 and I'm thinking maybe just a little larger IE: 32x56 inches. I need a good sturdy waterproof box and I want it to be large enough to mount the allpowers 200w panel I got for it which is roughly 31x54 hence my minimum size requirements.

The downside is I've NEVER done any fiberglass work at all! Honestly I'm not terribly worried about this though. Has anyone here done much fiberglass work?

I likely ordered the wrong type of resin as I wanted epoxy since it doesn't heat as much as polyester and I had been planning to use foam board as my base but I may end up using cardboard or similar.

Also now considering a three wheel arrangement one wheel with power and brakes.

Thoughts points tips?

PLEASE

I've repaired a lot of sailboats and surfboards. Check out, "Melting Surfboard Foam With Resin" on YouTube, so you get a sense of how different resins and foam can react. Don't use foam brushes or wax treated containers. The brushes will melt and the containers will give everything a muddy hue. Also, I think cardboard is not going to be structurally sound at all. You will be getting something resembling a Stroopwafle. West System is the only product I use when I'm serious, but you need to play around some. Amazon has some cheap casting kits which I've used for home repairs and experiments. See what you think.

I seen a single wheeled trailer that had 2 separate single rear wheels, on the rear end, the guy that built it was a hunter and he used this trailer to haul out game and camping supplies.
IIRR right it was a Quitekat brand, I'll have to find the information and post it here.
