Hi everyone,
My Bafang mid drive motor recently started sounding like there are rocks rattling around in it, I was riding an it was working fine then I went down hill no throttle and going again after the hill it sounded really bad. It is approximately 7 years old as it is from 2017 I got the bike 3rd hand with 800 miles and it now has 1300. FLX (now super human bikes) was helpful when the fuse in my battery melted but said there was no service that they could do because of the age so I don’t thing gettting the motor repaired by them is possible. They have the replacement one for sale on the site for 900 but that’s more then I bought the bike for so I was wondering if there is a fix to the problem.
Thanks Ryan

Are you planning on taking it apart? GreenBikeKit does stock a lot of the internal gears and other things that go bump in the night. Let us know what you find.

Starting taking it off, are these supposed to be unplugged or is it just like the speed limiter?

Greenbikekit, Biktrix and Frey Bike on YouTube all have videos on how to disassemble an ultra m620. I don't know this model, but get out your phone and take lots of pictures as you go, so if you need to back up you can.

According to Greenbikekit they are stock bearings 6000rs. You just have to make sure all of the measurements are correct and take note of anything written on yours, to double check. SKF and Timken both make that type of bearing. It sounds like your in deep now. Good luck.

Oh dear, well at least you are finding the problem. I don't really know. They do follow up with people. Why don't you email them and discuss what you need. You are in California and I am on the opposite coast so, any estimate I would have would be of no use.

What grease should I use? I don’t want to wait for the bafang grease unless it’s necessary. Does any internal gear grease work?

Can I use the synthetic version? A youtube video said too but the video had very little views/interaction

i've used both lucas red and tacky and the mobile grease.

not sure abotu anything synthetic or wutnot

The middle gear has some damage to it is it worth it to replace? The gears still mesh fine just wondering about the long term

If it were up to me, since you are already in there, I would replace it. What it does under alot of torque could be very different then just test spinning it. On the plus side, you are going to be very skilled at working on your motor after this.

I have a couple of thoughts for you. If you decide to change out the center gear and you need to use a bearing puller you can borrow one from Autozone or Advanced Auto. They put it on your charge as a rental and when you return it, they erase the charge, so it is free, also hang onto your old bearings, if they are intact, because you can use them with a large socket to tap on your new bearings. This is an old trick for protecting the shoulders of the new bearings. Good luck, I think you are doing really well with all this.

Wanted to let you know, I just had a biktrix video come up on my feed, "How to grease the Bafang ultra G510/M620 ebike motor". The voice over was a little too AI but otherwise it seems like a good instructional. These motors do take a lot of grease. The gasket is readily available, Aliexpress's is very cheap but I'm finding their delivery times are super slow this summer. Let us know how it's going.
