Hi,

I’m new to the forum and looking for some ebike advice from all you real-world riders and owners out there.. Looking to get our first ebikes—my wife and I—and want high quality upright geometry with semi-wide tires for, concrete, some gravel and dirt packed bike trails. No fat tires or skinny tires—more SUV type. We want mid-drive with throttle (must have throttle). We are both early 60’s. I am 6 ft, 265 lbs and my wife is 5’6 at 160 lbs and both active. We have rented e-bikes in Europe (no throttle of course) and have test ridden many here in KC. Everything from hub drives with throttles to higher end mid-drives without. My riding style is a bit more agressive as I like to go faster and we both want to really spend weekends—and beyond when we retire—so want quality and comfort and willing to pay for it.

So it is coming down to the Evelo Atlas for me and the Evelo Omega for my wife. However she test rode the Specialized Como 5.0 automatic hub and didn’t like it compared to the 4.0 with Enviolo. (And neither comes with throttle). So the Evelo Omega for her might not work. And it doesnt have suspension fork (understand I can put a stem on). And both Evelo’s don’t have adjustable front stems to really dial in the ride. But the Carbon CVT and powerful motors and torque both meet our needs. So it is a strong option.

Second is Zen which also come middrive and belt CVT. I would go with the Photon Pro with 750 watt (continuous) up to 160 torque—was considering the Photon Ultra which is coming out soon—but the Rohloff manual 14 speed might be too much for me as I’m a bit of a novice. I really like the idea of the Enviolo twist shifter for simplicity. For her, Zen is reccommending the new Photon lite. Which is about half the watts and 90 torque. Is it also 10 plus pounds lighter than the Pro. But it comes with a 3 speed automatic. She didn’t care for the specialized 5.0 which has a more limitless automatic so the limited 3 speed might be even less optimal for her. (Anyone have experience with this shifter?} Or do I go with the 500 watt option of the Pro for her? Zen thinks Pro tends to be heavy for women and 90% of their test drives end up with women picking the Lite. This is all DTC of course so sending back would be something i dont want to go through if it doesnt work out.

Any experience with any of these bikes? Or specs I’ve included? Really appreciate it!!!
