I'm about to buy my first e-bike. I think I found a great deal on a sale from Velotric for a Discover 1 Plus with some accessories included. Does anyone have an opinion on this model? I live in a city and would use it to get around to school, work, surrounding neighborhoods, and recreation.

I have the Velotric Go1 cargo bike. The quality and the build are very good but the one thing I really don't like is having a speed based controller and the fact that the throttle is not independent of the pedal assist levels. If you are biking around in pas 2 and reach 13 mph. the motor will drop out until you are once again below that range. It creates a sort of hurry up and wait pedaling style. There is no adjustability to this. I much prefer the controller on Ride1up bikes. You can set your pas levels and the assist is wattage based. If you are riding along with 150 watts of help, you just keep getting 150 watts of help, which is more consistent with how are bodies work. If that is not enough, you can set that pas level a bit higher, or lower on any level. You can also set the throttle to be independent of all levels. Take a look at their 700 Series and see what you think. Velotric's Discover 2 gets around some of these issues by mixing pas levels with modes so the choices become more blended, but it is much more expensive and I believe, also speed based. Controllers are one of the least mentioned attributes of ebikes and yet, one of the most important. Still, ebikes by their nature are just a joy, so happy hunting.
