Hi all,
Recenlty purchased an ebike with the following combo:

Motor : MM G330.250 (M400 i think)
HMI: Bafang DP-C07.U 2.0

For the life of me, I can't get to the password option on the HMI to increase the default speed limit (set to 25kmh). I'm in Australia. I've heard this version of the HMI does this. It has a UART connection.

Trowling the net, I see the following would probably work.

SW102 Mini LCD Display
DZ41 Display
Bafang 810S Display

They have options to increase default speed settings. If I swap my old DP-C027 for on of these, I should be able to increase my speed limit correct?

Alternatly, does anyone know how to access the speed limit and wheel size on the HMI I have?

Thanks in advance.

What exact ebike do you have? Bafang has changed a lot of their configurations and is becoming much less DIYer friendly. I'll post an excerpt from an Endless Sphere thread that will give you a little more information. Greenbikekit also shows a display that is an option for the M400. It has a "sport mode". I think this is their way of saying that it can be opened to a higher speed, but you should talk to them about it. The controller and display world has always been messy and is only becoming more so.

I've got a XDS E-rupt GS. According to the motor serial, I think the motor was made roughly 2017 or 2018. The HMI I have shows the speed limit and wheel dia settings, but they are view only. I can't change them in the HMI.

Do you think the motor from this period will have it's controller firmware locked out and I can't change the speed setting, even with Bafang Configuration Tools?

On this forum if you search: Bafang speed limit by license, some threads will come up. Since your bike is for Australia it may be locked out under that license. If you contact Greenbikekit.com, they ship worldwide and probably have a better grasp of whether you can change the display to effect the controller or simply reprogram it. That post I gave you from Endless Sphere was from 2019, so I'm guessing they already had that licensing in place for restricted countries, so I think it will be locked through the company that made your bike. Aliexpress has some U.S. controllers and displays. If you want to change everything out, that would be one way that should fix it.

Are you saying that the controllers/displays that are destined for the US market are not speed limited?
Ebikes in the states are allowed to have a throttle that can go 20mph. The pedal assist can go up to speeds of 28 mph. The bike I built with a midrive seems to be very happy at 32mph, that was from a kit off of Ebay. Most everyone here has 500 watt or 750 watt motors. Some mountain bike motors run smaller due to the rules in the public parks and trails limiting them. We also don't have restrictions if it is going to be used completely off road. Actually, bikes in England can have their throttles deristricted if it is for off-road use. Engwes are popular over there because they allow this and make a good farm bike. So, yes controllers for our bikes have to allow for much more amperage. A 500 watt motor on a 48 volt system can easily pull 18 or 20 amps peak. if you buy a KT controller with display that you will program yourself you can get whatever you need for your project. A number of people on these forums have duel motors of a thousand watts each. They are not street legal, but the are fine for the woods. If you watch some YouTube channels of people modifying ebikes you will get a sense of it. "Citizen Cycle" started adding motors to Wired Freedoms and Area13 shows you how to program a KT Controller and puts them on a Dyno to test them. You can also watch some of the British ebike videos to see which ebikes over there can be "loosened up a bit". If you start DIYing things, a lot is possible.

I hope you see this. A fellow on a different thread, " George98, Electric Bike Conversion" was asking about a kit build from this company in the UK. "Greenlance.co.uk". They have a controller and display, "the UKC1" that was designed in the UK and is very programmable. You can set the speed and the wattage and restrict it and derestrict it with a few button pushes. I think you could order it and since it is acceptable in the UK it should be fine for Australia. You can search out the thread up above.

Ended up spending a minimal amount and purchased the USB/UART cable. Installed Bafang Configuratiojn Tool and found that whilst my HMI had lockouts, the controller did not, lucky for me. Was able to set the speed limit independant of the HMI, and can now configure the controller fully the way I want it.

Well, good on you mate! I didn't think that would currently work for your controller. I hope other people find this thread and give it a try.
