I have not seen this specific issue, yet. The controller will work, but once it is turned off and then back on, we cannot get it to engage. It lights up, shows the screen and full battery charge, all looks good. But when we try to move the control up to the different levels, it won't "stay", meaning you can see it move up but as soon as you take your finger off it goes back to no assist. It is the damnedest thing! We've tried everything, pushing every combination of buttons. I take it off and can see that the contacts look fine...the battery is fully charged and shows as such....it just won't work! After turned off for an hour or so, it will work again. But if it is turned off it wont work again. We are afraid to use the bike because twice we had a long, slow pedal home without power.
The bike is a 2018 touring bike.

Do you get an error code? This sounds as if there may be a damaged hall sensor inside the motor?
Not expensive, but terribly difficult to repair & easy to screw up! Had more or less the same issue,
checked every connection, even tried a new display. Nothing, nada! Might also be a dying controller?
2018 makes it pretty old. Mileage?
